WhatsApp is introducing a new update for iPhone users that lets them connect their email address to their WhatsApp account. Currently, you can log in using your phone number, but this update adds the option of using your email too. This can be helpful if you can’t receive SMS codes for login. Don’t worry, your email won’t be visible to others.
Updating WhatsApp on iPhone
To get this feature, make sure you’ve updated WhatsApp to version 2.23.24.70 on your iPhone. Once updated, go to the settings, tap on Account, and then select Email address to add your email. After adding it, you’ll receive a verification code via email for confirmation.
Enhanced Verification Through Email
The idea is that having your email linked allows you to get verification codes through email if there are issues with SMS codes. However, your phone number remains the main way to identify you on WhatsApp, and your email is just a private way for them to send you authentication codes.
Availability on iPhone vs. Android
This feature was first seen in beta versions for both Android and iOS. While it’s now available for iPhone users, there’s no clear timeline for when Android users will get it on the stable version. Currently, it’s being tested by beta users on Android, and it seems to be working well.
