Senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad has raised questions about Congress leader Sonia Gandhi’s silence regarding the controversy surrounding remarks made about ‘Sanatan Dharma.’ He suggested that her silence may be seen as approval of the statements made by some Opposition leaders.
Prasad emphasized that his party takes pride in Sanatan tradition which promotes equality among all irrespective of caste or community. Mr. Prasad addressed Sonia Gandhi, saying, “You are the most prominent leader of your party, and your silence on this issue is causing concern in the nation.”

He expressed his distress over the focus on criticism of Sanatan Dharma while ignoring other important matters. He referred to recent comments by DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin, who linked Sanatan Dharma to division and discrimination, suggesting it should be eradicated like diseases such as malaria and dengue. DMK leader A Raja also made remarks comparing ‘Sanatan Dharma’ to diseases like AIDS and leprosy, which carry social stigma.

Prasad criticized these statements and questioned the extent to which politicians would go for the sake of securing votes. He also raised the issue of whether Sonia Gandhi ever considered visiting the Ram Temple in Ayodhya and noted that no significant Congress leader had visited the Ram Janmabhoomi.
Ravi Shankar Prasad explained the concept of Sanatan Dharma by quoting the Rig Veda emphasizing the idea different paths could lead to the same ultimate truth. He condemned the denigration of Sanatan Dharma for political gain and questioned why such actions were taken for the sake of votes.

The Congress party had previously stated that it did not agree with the remarks made by DMK leaders Udhayanidhi Stalin and A Raja regarding ‘Sanatan Dharma’ and reiterated its belief in equal respect for all religions. The party also emphasized that all members of the India alliance hold immense respect for various faiths, communities, and beliefs.
