In the recent ICC World Cup match Pakistan won against Bangladesh securing their third victory in the tournament. This win gave them chance to reach the semi-finals. Pakistan had a tough start in tournament, losing to India, Australia, and Afghanistan. However, they bounced back with convincing win over Bangladesh.
During the match, Bangladesh batted first and scored 204 runs before getting all out. Pakistan’s bowlers, especially Shaheen Shah Afridi and Mohammad Wasim Jr, played a significant role in restricting Bangladesh to a low score. In reply, Pakistan chased down the target with ease, thanks to Fakhar Zaman’s brilliant innings of 81 runs off 74 balls.
Pakistan’s Path to Semifinals: A Glimpse of Hope Amidst Struggles
Despite their initial struggles Pakistan still has shot at reaching the semi-finals. They improved their net run rate in tournament, placing them in fifth position on the points table. They are currently two points behind Australia and New Zealand, who are ahead of them. South Africa, in the second position, is four points ahead of Pakistan.
For Pakistan to make it to the semi-finals, they need either New Zealand, South Africa or Australia to lose matches and not cross the 10-point mark. In such scenario, Pakistan can surpass their rivals based on a better net run rate. Pakistan’s upcoming matches are against New Zealand on Saturday and England on November 11. If they perform well and other results go in their favor, they stand a good chance of qualifying for the semi-finals despite their initial struggles in the tournament.
