Afghanistan has been hit by series of earthquakes latest being magnitude 4.3 tremor. The National Centre for Seismology reported that the earthquake occurred at depth of 150 km at 1:09 am (IST). This marks the fourth earthquake to strike country in rapid succession. Just a week ago powerful earthquake in Herat province caused widespread devastation, claiming over 4,000 lives and destroying thousands of homes.
Aftershocks and Destruction Leave Communities in Crisis
The region already impoverished, has been severely affected, with Herat and nearby areas experiencing significant aftershocks. The Taliban-led Ministry of Disaster Management in Afghanistan has confirmed the destruction of 1,983 residential houses in 20 villages in Herat but exact number of casualties is yet to be determined. The situation remains precarious, with the country facing series of natural disasters.
