US President Joe Biden is scheduled to visit New Delhi for G20 summit this weekend. He will arrive on Friday and have a one-on-one meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi before joining the G20 Leaders’ Summit.
India’s G20 Presidency: Key Meetings and Sectors
The White House mentioned that Biden will officially greet Modi on Saturday and take part in the G20 Leaders’ Summit. He will also visit the Raj Ghat Memorial to Mahatma Gandhi on Sunday before heading to Vietnam.
India has held the G20 presidency since December and has organized various meetings involving 32 sectors. The culmination will be the gathering of leaders from the world’s 20 largest economies.
Challenges and Expectations for the G20 Summit on Ukraine
Prior to Biden’s arrival, his national security adviser, Jake Sullivan, mentioned that achieving a complete consensus on Ukraine during the G20 summit was challenging. He didn’t anticipate Russia represented by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov changing its stance. Sullivan noted that most members of both the United Nations (UN) and G20 opposed Russia’s “illegal invasion” of Ukraine.
