A group of hackers, claiming to be from India, took down the official website of the Canadian Armed Forces. They did this to express their anger over the Canadian government’s accusations related to the killing of separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar. This incident was reported by The Telegraph.
Hackers Target Canadian Military Site
The hackers, who call themselves the ‘Indian Cyber Force,’ had previously issued a warning on September 21, indicating their intention to possibly attack Canadian cyberspace. They were also unhappy with the statements and what they saw as anti-India politics by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Warning of Cyber Attack
According to Daniel Le Bouthillier, the head of media relations at the Department of National Defence, the disruption started around noon but was fixed later on. While the website couldn’t be accessed on most mobile devices for a brief period, there were no significant consequences beyond that.
Response and Investigation
It’s important to note that the hacked website is not directly connected to the Canadian government or its National Defence Department’s public sites and internal networks. The Canadian Forces, which oversee various branches including the Navy, special command groups, air, and space operations, are currently investigating this hacking incident.
