Amid escalating conflict between Israeli security forces and Palestinian group Hamas, New Delhi has been placed on high alert due to potential protests in the city, according to police.
To maintain order, Delhi Police officers will be stationed on the streets, especially during Friday prayers, with significant security measures in place. Jewish religious establishments and the Israel Embassy have also received increased security.
Global Response to Hamas: Heightened Security in Various Nations
This precautionary response of Hamas attack follows actions taken by several countries, including the US, UK, France, and Germany, which heightened security around potential targets related to Jewish community and pro-Palestinian protesters due to intensifying violence in Israel.
In response to attack by Hamas, France has banned all pro-Palestinian demonstrations in interest of public order. However, critics argue that this ban restricts freedom of speech and assembly.
Human Toll of Conflict: Losses in Gaza and Israel
Tragically conflict has led to significant loss of life. More than 1,500 people in Gaza have lost their lives, and Israel has also suffered casualties, with 1,300 Israelis dead following surprise land-sea-air attack by Hamas. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared “state of war” and vowed to heavily retaliate, leading to dire situation in region.
On a more positive note, Indian nationals who were stranded in Israel due to ongoing conflict have been successfully evacuated. The first flight under Operation Ajay landed in New Delhi today, bringing them back home.
