Aam Aadmi Party leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh has raised concerns about his safety and security in recent incident involving Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials. Singh claims ED officials attempted to move him from their premises to Police Station Tughlak Road, where he feared he might be mistreated.
Sanjay Singh representatives’ response
According to Singh’s legal representatives, when he questioned the reason for the move, he was told it was due to the use of pesticides in the ED headquarters’ lockup. Singh found it hard to believe that such a premier agency had only one lockup. When he resisted the move, he was allegedly made to sleep outside the lockup and subjected to inhuman treatment.
Alleged Mistreatment: Singh’s Stand Against ED
Following these allegations, the court asked the ED to respond to Singh’s application. This incident comes after Singh was sent to remand till October 10, 2023, in connection with a now-discarded Delhi excise policy or liquor scam case. Singh is the third prominent AAP leader, after Satyendra Jain and Manish Sisodia, to be arrested in this case.
Background of the Delhi Excise Policy Scam Case
The case revolves around claims that Singh and his associates were involved in the Delhi government’s decision to grant licenses to alcohol shops and merchants in 2020. The ED has alleged that this decision led to losses for the state exchequer and violated anti-corruption laws.
The agency has filed several charge sheets in the case, alleging irregularities in the Delhi Excise Policy modification, including undue favors, waivers of fees, and extensions of licenses without proper approvals.
Ongoing Investigation: What’s Next for Singh and Others?
Singh’s allegations have raised serious questions about treatment of individuals in custody and have led to increased scrutiny of the case. The legal proceedings will continue as Singh and others involved in case face further investigation and hearings in coming days.
